In January.
Q started some maybe he won't always hate his brother behaviors (someday they will be friends, someday they will be friends), we made a quick trip to Connecticut for Thanksgiving (spending a day in the freezing city - it made me not-homesick for New York), the boys met Santa (which we've apparently completely de-emphasized and neither cared much about), and spent a lot of time at the park. And when I say December, of course I mean January, because it's the first day of 2014 today and saying that it is December would be dishonest. But, I made a goal to catch up before the end of the year (a goal I've decided I should never, ever make until at least 2020 when maybe things calm down a little bit), and you'd better believe I'm going to do it - or at least make it appear that I did so Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19221788.post-34027636712772631652013-11-13T15:07:00.000-05:002013-11-13T15:07:04.679-05:00From November-ish.
West and I were following Q as he was scootering around the park the other day when he stopped and said, Mom! These flowers are so beautiful! We sat there for a few minutes examining their purple-ness and beauty and then continued on our way. Funny boy.
Halloween was quick and we recycled costumes last minute (I returned the overpriced although cute options from Pottery Barn - a Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19221788.post-61301036186654813592013-11-13T14:11:00.003-05:002013-11-13T14:11:28.672-05:00From October, in November.
So today, Quinn patted my belly and said, Mom! There's a baby! There's a baby! I mean, I guess his preschool teacher had a baby so maybe he's got it on the brain, but I also feel like maybe I should be snacking on M&M's a little less often. Few things are as humbling as the honesty from a toddler.
A few minutes later he asked, Where's mom's penis?! I had to pee this morning, and I had an audience just as I've had (almost) every time for the past three years - one of the perks of motherhood. Quinn sat there and looked at me for a second and then said, Mom! Where's your penis?!

Quinn was on one today. He has essentially all but dropped his nap, and as a result, afternoons are hard. This afternoon was a perfect example. He was demanding airplanes, trips to the cabin and an assortment of other things that were undeliverable. We went to Utah last-minute for Grandma Grow's funeral. Growing up in a family that doesn't really do burials and doesn't really do funerals means that they always feel new to me - but I really like that really, they serve as happy family reunions (a preview of what is to come, I'd imagine). We had a nice time seeing the extended Grow family, Mike's siblings and my sisters in Utah.

Day 1: Left our house – chaos! – and went to IAH for our late evening flight. As soon as we left the house, Quinn started with I want Grandma’s house! on repeat. I thought about doing nothing for West's birthday. It's been a long few months, a busy week, and two birthday in one week - oh my goodness. That was some bad strategic planning on our part.
But then, I thought about the past year and how long and short it has been, how hard and happy, and it just reminded me that it's all reason to celebrate this sweet little boy, and celebrating alone Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19221788.post-72042723200467164342013-09-04T22:02:00.000-05:002013-09-05T07:05:31.612-05:00Preschool.
(Mike took video as we were walking Quinn in on Tuesday. I may have had him stop at one point because tears snuck up on me as soon as we walked through the doors. Also, preschool directors should never say, Your mama is going to hug you extra tight because it's your first day of school! That may have triggered a waterfall.)

We went to the doctor this past week - a place where Quinn normally screams and cries and nothing worthwhile gets accomplished as a result - and he was calm. The NP we met with was amazing and calming and when we left, he said So fun going to the doctor!
