I quit. I promise. Starting now.

  1. Phosphorus found in most sodas contribute to bone loss by inhibiting the absorption of calcium.
  2. High fructose corn syrup is linked to high blood sugar and diabetes.
  3. High fructose corn syrup is not absorbed like other sugars. It is processed through the liver and is the sugar that is most easily converted to fat.
  4. Carbonated drinks are linked to acid reflux, and esophageal cancer.
  5. Kids who drink soda on average have more cavities than kids who do not drink soda.
  6. Caffeine and sugar both cause dehydration.
  7. If you think diet soda is better think again. Aspartame is made from formaldehyde and and menthol. These toxins are known to cause nerve damage, headaches, and blurred vision.
  8. New studies link Aspartame in diet soda to sugar cravings. Experts believe that tricking your palate with artificial sweetener can cause the body to want the sugar in another form.
  9. Drinking either regular or diet soda is linked to obesity.
  10. There are so many better {and tastier} things to drink than soda!

I don't (well usually) drink soda/carbonation. It does happen once every once in a while it's usually root beer (or coke for floats). It really is a waste to drink your calories. Plus, yeah, bad for your bones, teeth, etc. Good luck!

YOU have anxiety?! I am supposed to run a half marathon in 4 weeks! Quite frankly, I don't know if it will happen. I've been SO busy at work, and I only ran three times at the lake. I'm in trouble. SF will be so fun. Hopefully the no-soda thing will make me super fast. Right? Hope so.

I want a coke. I like it straight up. I may as well just inject it into my veins...

Oh- I also love diet coke with cranberry juice. Seriously. It's my bar favorite (when I have to go to work events, etc).

This stinks.

I have been trying to convince matthew that diet coke is not good for you. I have been trying to get him to stop drinking it for such a long time! Now I can prove it thanks to your posting!

I didn't know you were a diet coke drinker! Good luck stopping. I have a few friends that just can't do it.

I like your "drink" for work events. That sounds interesting. I'm sure it's better than just having water while your clients drink alcohol.

Me too. On a more positive note, I read an interesting article a while ago about 101 ways to stay in shape/train for events by avoiding sports injuries, increasing efficiency, etc. and #13 was:

13. Chug a Coke (or antioxidant-packed iced tea).
In a University of Georgia study, cyclists who downed 10 milligrams of caffeine per kilogram of body weight before a 30-minute ride had significantly less thigh pain than those who took a placebo.

Sorry, don't mean to discredit the negatives, but I'm an addict, so I just need to feel better about continuing my habit.
