I already mentioned Friday's rain. Pouring rain & gusting winds, which were lethal actually - they killed my umbrella. When it cleared up though, it was spectacular. The clouds! So dramatic! Without editing. Really. It was beautiful.
After walks through several of the Smithsonians, a 2-hour visit to the Holocaust Museum (beautiful), the discovery of Magnolia blossoms (they should have their own festival), an inaugural visit to Potbelly Sandwiches, & a solo trip through the Newseum (the 9/11 exhibit made me cry), the sun finally came out - & it was beautiful.
The world's front pages after 9/11.
I already mentioned that most of my photos look like this, right? They do. I should have just shaved my head.
Things I love about DC:
- Escalators in the Metro. What a genius idea (!!). Such a common-sense inclusion to the NYC Subway System would have been much-welcomed at the start of my trip on Thursday.
- Speaking of the Metro - Air conditioning. Not smelly. People don't live down there. No turnstiles.
- The history.
- Clean sidewalks - many of them brick or otherwise decorated.
- Friendly people who say such things as, "Excuse me."
- Beautiful & historic architecture.
- Arlington. Alexandria. Georgetown.
- The slower pace.
- The Obama paraphernalia everywhere.
- The nice man by the Lincoln Memorial who, after selling me a water & 2 postcards said, Okay, thank you, see you tomorrow.
