I should start off by saying that it is currently 16˚ ("feels like -1"). 20mph winds & 40% humidity made the weather today pretty awesome. This is definitely a city of extremes, & days like today make me want to climb into my bed with my ugliest, warmest pajamas on & never come out.
But!
I had a successful day. A good one, actually, despite my 10am exit from my nice & warm bed (oops).
See, good things happened today. For starters - I had a coupon at Origins (I like Origins & their frequent & generous coupon-sending). I trekked down to Grand Central & bought my favorite face wash in an extra-giant (i.e. promotional) size for $10! Instead of $23. That made me happy.
And then I got my eyebrows done, because it's been a few months & I just can't do it myself. I can maintain for a few weeks, & then I get really nice terrible, straight eyebrows. Ick. I've already said this, but getting my brows done make me feel like a new woman.
My appointment was on 5th, & since Anthropologie was spitting distance away, I had to go in. Just to browse (I'm not a window shopper & I hate browsing). Plus, Jen said that everything in the store was on sale. She wasn't kidding (thanks, Jen). I'm glad that I succumbed to the temptation, because all of their Christmas trim is 75% off (75%!!). I had already purchased the ornament pictured above a few weeks ago, but I found some really, really lovely strings of colored replica-vintage Christmas lights. I fell in love with old, glass lights when Erin & I were in DC & saw them in Cara's neighborhood & in Georgetown. They're beautiful. Fragile, but beautiful. I came home & told Mike that I bought us an early Christmas present (Late? he said). I can't wait to decorate for next year. Nor am I willing to take down anything from this year quite yet. Maybe next week.
And - I'm trying to be a better runner again, just like how I'm trying to be a better reader, too. Getting back to my roots you know, to the simple things that I love & used to do often. Well, I decided the other day at the gym that my running shoes have lost their cush, so I went to our local UES running store where they analyzed my stride (on a treadmill, with a video camera that they replayed it in slow motion) & I found a new pair of shoes that I l-o-v-e. Mizunos. The brand I wore when Mike & I were dating (We've come full circle! he said - it's been 5 years of Nike's for me since then). Anyway. Their gift to me? 10% off! Forever! On anything I buy in the store, for ever & ever. No idea why. Just because, they said. Because today was just a good day. I like this store.
We went to Harlem with friends tonight & ate cemitas again, even though it is freezing today.
Mike & I are going to curl up & watch a movie. It's just a nice, relaxing week. A nice end to a (mostly) nice year.

I love my Mizunos too! They are the best running shoe. Can't wait to upgrage to a new pair too.
Asics are my fav, but Mizunos are runner up. Good choice.
Was the bedding on sale at anthropologie? our guest room is needing something. anything.
it all sounds great. especially the eyebrows. i need to do that.
I love how you write about your days, even when it is what to you might seem the most mundane of things, it always comes out sounding great!
Score on the running shoes - you didn't run your marathon, no? Are you planning to run any races in the future.
And ps. Tess of the D'Ubervilles is one of my favourite books ever - so utterly tragic but beautifully written!
Oooh! Love that your friends suggest books that I can run and get to start the new year off with. Add that to the ones you suggested and I'm really ready for the snow to start falling seriously. Curling up by the fireplace with a new soft blanket and a cup of something warm, and I'm just happy as can be! I'm taking down some Christmas, but leaving part up till well into January. I just love the lights!
