Someone knew I desperately needed a vacation. Someone (namely, Citigroup) has decided to intervene in our lives. Mike called me at work yesterday and started off by saying, "Kathryn, (he only uses my name [in lieu of "sweetheart" or something else affectionate] when he is going to talk about something serious), I've got some news for us." I immediately thought that he had been offered a job on the west coast and that we were fulfilling my lifelong (or the last few years) dream of moving to San Francisco. Close, but not quite. Mike won an award at work and as a result, Citigroup is taking us to a resort/spa in Arizona for 5 days. In a week. Next week! We leave Sunday morning (not tomorrow- the next one). It was short notice, but absolutely perfect timing in terms of work. My team just finished up our busy season (meaning 70+ hour work weeks and lots of stress) and I have been tired. It's a perfect time to take time off! I cannot wait for warm weather, daily yoga classes and a pool. I will get to actually sit and read. I woke up this morning and said, "Mike! We get to go swimming! In a week!" I feel like a 6 year old who just got a new pony, but I have just needed a vacation so badly, not to mention the fact that it has been a gross month weather wise in NYC. The Boulders look beautiful, and there are so many things to do (lots of yoga/pilates/etc classes, hiking, etc). After we get back, we'll be home for about a week, and then it's off to Utah for a short weekend with family and friends (and Sundance- I already made our reservation for dinner. Yum!). March is going to be a good month. April is our 2-year anniversary and we had been trying to find a fun (i.e, warm & sunny with long sandy beaches) place to go. We've decided to put that money into our "mortgage/down payment" fund that we are working on and call this our anniversary trip instead. It's kind of funny, because the same thing happened last year, as McKinsey took us to St. Thomas for our office retreat the same weekend as our anniversary. We've been off the hook for the last two years. No complaints here.

Wow! So perfect, Kathryn! A spa/resort vacation sounds AMAZING and the best timing for you guys after working so hard. Man, how would that be? I can't wait for the update.
Any luck finding a dress?
And you two have really lucked out with "complementary" anniversay celebrations. This year for us? Ummm...Brad was traveling. We talked on the phone. :(
Oh, and my mom grew up (her whole life) in Scottsdale.
Can't wait for the update...
I'm pretty excited. :) Only a week away. Timing couldn't have been better...
No luck with the dress, although I have yet to make any real effort. I might go out this afternoon, or next week one evening. We'll see. I'm going to try your JCrew suggestions, as well as Anthropologie. We'll see.
I've never been to Arizona. The website shows that there are quite a few... rocks. :) Hence the name I suppose, but it certainly doesn't look like anywhere I have been. Ask your mom what kind of weather I should expect.
It's always warm!
I'm not sure if JCrew always has the wedding and party collection in their stores--which could be a problem (although they probably carry it in NYC).
Good luck!
My mom said 70's.
Lucky you! That resort looks beautiful...definitely lots of hiking and yoga. Mmmm, I'm jealous too. I want a weekend getaway on my husband's company.
What a great surprise. I'm so happy for you. Perfect timing too. And it is always warm there (unless you live there and then you'd think it did get cold, like California). I can't wait to hear about all the things you do!
I'll take 75. It beats the 30 degrees in New York today!
I found a dress yesterday, after trying on a dozen between Banana and JCrew- I couldn't find ANYTHING that worked with garments, even with a shrug over. Most of them just looked silly. Sigh.Anyway- I found it at Anthropologie. It's really girlie but I think it will work (and I found a shrug that looks cute over my shoulders). It took a few hours, but I think I'm happy with it...
