I'm in Boston. Kelli had told me that CVS in Boston sold Bumble & Bumble products {they don't in NYC- I already checked}. I have wanted to fully convert to Bb. for a long time {although I am a big Redken All-Soft fan, & I love Biolage}. I walked by a CVS today, & sure enough- they had shelves & shelves of Bumble & Bumble, in all different varieties. I especially loved the smell of the Creme de Coco shampoo. Mmm. I'm generally pretty particular about my shampoo, & typically go for salon-quality brands that smell delicious. But here's the deal- in my quest for better budget keeping {& the continual maintenance of my still-happy marriage}, I don't think I can spend $27 on shampoo in good conscience. I'd rather buy shoes {or at least a shoe}. Or a few new colors of MAC shadow that I really don't need but want. Or a new pair of Yoga pants. But spending almost $60 to shampoo & condition my hair... I need an alternative. So my question is this- what is the best kind of shampoo that costs about the same as a burrito at Chipotle, & not a pair of slacks from Banana Republic? I'm on a quest.

I'm bad about this one. I spend too much on my color to have it wash down the drain with bad shampoo. Also, I have annoying curly hair. Not pretty curly, but the wavy weird kind, so I like a color/straightner shampoo that won't fade. I had an experience once when Harrison dumped the entire new very large salon sized bottle of Pureology down the drain. I just took a breath, washed the bubbles away, and bought a new bottle. No child was harmed.

I like Aveda shampoo. And they sell the enormous salon pump bottles for a good price. And that usually limits my shampoo buying to once every 6 months (more or less). Good deal I think!

The creme de coco is SUPER moisturizing. I bought the conditioner in Boston. Bb is very gentle though which might be worth paying a bit more for. Good job on trying to stick to your budget!

I think you're screwed on this one. Also in an effort to adhere to the budget, I've searched assiduously for good, but cheaper shampoo. It doesn't exist. Sorry. I'd cut back somewhere else before I cut back here. That's just me though...

Once I read an article in Real Simple about where it's fine to cut back budget wise (on beauty products) and where it is important to splurge. Their conclusion- don't fret about having "matching" brands of shampoo and conditioner. People seem to get hung up on their shampoo brand but really it's fairly equal to drug store shampoo. Their favorite pick- Garnier Fructis Shampoo. I have used it ever since and love it. As for conditioner, this is where they said it is worth the splurge. Since this is really what makes your hair healthier and stronger and shinier. Shampoo is more for breaking down dirt and hair product. So, I say, buy your favorite conditioner and then save on the shampoo by buying a drug store brand. Then you can stick to your budget at least half way.

Heidi's comment makes sense. But, do you have a Nordstrom Rack? They have Biolage at mine for half what it usually retails for.

I also think its a good idea to use better conditioner and not fret so much about the shampoo.

ps: did you ever try bare minerals? This isn't a pressure comment just curious.

Kera- no on the BM. It is taking me FOREVER to run out of my MAC stuff, and I'm trying so hard to use things up before I replace them. I'm doing pretty well so far.

And about the shampoo issue... I'm too OCD to have 2 bottles that don't match. Ridiculous I know, but I also like scents to "compliment" each other. I have issues.

Maybe I'll just go back to Biolage. Not ridiculously priced (if you find the great big bottles on sale), and does the trick more or less. Sigh.
