Connection.

My dad is in Taiwan this week {eating quite the array of very odd food I might add}. He sent an email this morning with the name & phone number of his hotel {in case of emergency}. Being at work, I did the logical thing & picked up my phone & called him- half way around the world! New York City is 12 time zones away from Taiwan. 12! It only took about 5 seconds to connect, & our connection was flawless. As an extra measure of fun, I conferenced in my mom as well & my dad surprised her with a hello. It was a fun conversation with my parents- Me in New York {okay, Greenwich}, my mom in Portland {visiting Tara}, & my dad in his hotel room in Taiwan. I might hate my BlackBerry sometimes, but I would not be a happy camper without these modern conveniences that enable our family to stay so close.

Mom was all smiles! You should do it again and I'll get the kids on. They would think that was cool :)

Thank you! Thank you! I was missing Dad and it was so nice to hear his voice...just as though he were in the next room. I just loved it that you would be so thoughtful to bring us together so seamlessly. What a happy day!

I've spent a lot of time on my computer while in Taiwan. Tells you something about the local tourist attractions. BUT to be fair, the people are very friendly and gracious and anxious to please. I had come to my room only a few minutes before Kathryn called - good timing. Today I won't be in my room much - but I will be home literally "before" you know it. (I leave Taipei at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday and get to Seattle at 7:00 p.m. the same evening. So I have a few extra hours to burn - or did I give them up when I came here - I can't remember. I think I may have just proven Einstein's theory of relativity.
