We went to DC with our friends & it was WONDERFUL.

Who: Teams Burton, Egan, Youngberg & Whiting + sister in law Cara who played an excellent tour guide for us.
What: Travel to Washington DC for some Cherry Blossom watching, wandering, relaxing, photo taking & eating.
Where: Dinner at Kelsey's friend Spike's Good Stuff Eatery (it was really, really good - I rank it a strong #2 to Shake Shack), breakfast at the Eastern Market, lunch from Potbelly (enjoyed in the park in front of the White House), a pre-dinner snack of cupcakes at Red Velvet, dinner at the much-hyped (& deservingly so) Seventh Hill Pizza & an Easter breakfast at our hotel - because we were tired & desperately wanted to sleep in. Oh, & we grabbed Potbelly again on our way out - love their sandwiches & their apple banana shake. Yum.
When: Last weekend. For the Cherry Blossom Festival. Not sure if the blossoms quite measured up to last year's spectacular showing, but they were beautiful - & it was 80˚ (although it took a few hours for it to warm up Saturday morning & we shivered our way through our breakfast)! We all came home with little sunburns & funny tanlines. Oops.
Why: Because sometimes getting out of the city is wonderful, even if it means going to another (much smaller) city - especially when you go with such good friends who are so easy to travel with. Especially in the spring.

I want to carry one of these little guys around so that when I say Whiting, like the fish! people don't give me crazy eyes.

Hours of bocce ball was played (by the boys) across the street from the White House while the girls chatted about girl things & relaxed.

Julia Child's kitchen at the Smithsonian.

Michelle Obama's inauguration ball gown (+ shoes & jewelry!) at the Smithsonian.

Delicious pizza at Seventh Hill. Mike was hesitant (We're eating pizza outside of New York?! Why?!), but it was delicious & we are big fans.

Gorgeous pictures! I'm so excited now, we're going to DC in a few weeks and while we'll probably miss the cherry blossoms, I can't wait to check out some of those places you ate! Thanks for your detailed post. :) Sounds like it was such a great trip.
