A guy in church on Sunday started off his talk by introducing himself. "I am a bagel person, " he said. He was going somewhere with this (but it's not necessary here to explain where). I am a slipper person. I love my slippers. Mike got me this shearling/sheepskin pair from JCrew for Christmas last year, and as beat up as they are, I cannot seem to let them go. They are perfect for chilly mornings and late nights, especially in the winter when our wood (ok, parquet) floors are especially frigid. I went down to the lobby of our building tonight to rent a movie wearing them. The doorman was giving me a funny look. I think he wants a pair for himself. I will not give him mine. My Uggs are apparently an extension of my love for these slippers. I think Uggs are horrifically ugly (not to mention that I hate to fall victim to such a trendy trend) but you cannot argue their value in terms of warmth and comfort. My toes are always toasty in my Uggs, and better yet, I feel like I am wearing my slippers!
I am also morphing into a bathrobe person. I never imagined this would be the case. I've had a "cute" bathrobe for a few years that was more of a modest wrap when we had guests over than a towel to keep me dry/warm. Mike got me a plush, thick, white, luxury-hotel-quality bathrobe for Christmas this year (he is a good gift-giver). I was a bit skeptical at first (bathrobes have always seemed matronly to me), but it quickly turned into a favorite. I think I could live in my slippers and bathrobe, were it not for the bothersome necessities of life, such as going out in public.
In other news... Our Martin Luther King Day was relaxing and well spent. I have loved having the day off from work (despite me checking my blackberry far too many times on a "holiday". It's both a blessing & a curse to be so well-connected). We met friends for brunch/lunch (I had Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, Mike had a steak sandwich with rosemary fries) and then did errands for a few hours - Staples (supplies so I could re-organize my cookbook I've put together for myself), Bed Bath & Beyond (my kitchen scale died a few weeks ago), Best Buy (they didn't have Season 2 of Lost - we've already finished season 1) and Century 21 (Mike loves the bargain of getting $150 shirts for less than half the price). It was an awful day in New York, weather wise. We felt as if we were walking through a mist-filled cloud all day. Our apartment is high enough that we really are in a cloud during this type of weather. We've spent the afternoon getting caught up on organizing (me), cleaning (me), budgeting (Mike) and playing x-box (Mike). I feel refreshed & ready to get back to work. In the meantime, 24 is starting in 3 minutes and Mike and I can't wait to see what Jack Bauer pulls off this season.

I just caught up on things going on and I truly hope you have a better week this next week than the last. Sounds like your work is just crazy and I hope you get a breather today.
I like your blog. It's interesting to read about city life from a perspective other than "mother." I have some friends out there, but they are mom's like me.
And if you don't mind me asking, what kind of bathrobe do you have? Because I have gone through three in the past two years and they haven't been cheap kinds either. Do you like short or long ones? Terry cloth or cotton?

I've peeked at your blog a few times, too. :) I LOVE the new blog that you have started with Lindsey & Kelli- It feels like a "Real Simple" magazine for mom's. Someday it will all be relevant to me, but for the time being I'll just try to remember all the cool things/ideas I see on there. :)
My job... I'm a recruiter for Goldman Sachs, and right now, well... we're busy. We're in the middle of our season of recruiting summer interns, so it won't let up until the very end of February or early March. I've worked more than I have EVER worked these past two weeks and am thoroughly exhausted. We're in Connecticut today visiting the in-laws, so I'm taking advantage of the silence of the suburbs!
Bathrobes... I've had a light cotton short one from JCrew for the last few years that I have loved, but Mike (husband) got me a really thick terry-cloth version from LLBean for Christmas. I'll admit to being hesitant at first, but I LOVE it. It is so warm and thick, and the neck comes up kind of high which makes it more "cozy". I would definitely recommend it- it comes down to about my knees I think.
New York... is fun. In the end though, it's just another place to live, not an amusement park like some people think. I could be equally happy I think in Midway, UT or California, but for the time being, I love it here. I feel like when I work so much, I can't really take advantage of the city, but we've had some great experiences over the past almost-2 years. It will definitely be a different experience though being a mom in Manhattan... I don't know how people do it, dragging their bugaboos up the subway stairs every day! I'll let you know how it goes!

It may be a while before you need stroller advice, but from what I hear the Maclaren's do the best in NYC. I can't imagine taking a Bugaboo everywhere.
I can't imagine dragging a stroller, period, around NYC! I really admire urban moms. I'll try to remember the Maclaren... Bugaboos are cute, but are also incredibly "trendy" (if a stroller can be trendy?) and REALLY expensive... $1,000 for a stroller isn't normal, right?
