That looks beautiful. So...what is the deal with this cabin? Have you guys always had it? How long have you been going there? Do you share it with anyone else? How often do you go? Winter too? Devin and I always talk about getting something like this someday so our kids have a place they can always call their "beach house" or "cabin" or some sort of place we always go. I love it. I love that you have so many memories.
Since Kathryn is asleep.... We have been going to Priest Lake since before Kathryn was born. Ask her to sing the song we made about her there as a baby sometime. It's hard to get property on the lake since it's mostly forest service property and they don't sell it off very often. In 2000 the State of Idaho agreed to sell of some land and my parents were the second people to buy a lot. We are a little biased but we think they got the best one. We share the cabin with friends but this was the first summer that my parents ever rented it out. It was somewhat of a contention and still is as to how often they will be doing that. My parents are there almost every weekend, and year round. Just wait until Kathryn posts pictures from Christmas! It's almost as pretty then and the snowmobiling is amazing. We love it!
Tara, thanks for stepping up while I was asleep! :) To add to your already-good explanation- We started camping at Priest Lake as soon as my parents (shortly after?) moved from S. California (I wasn't born yet, like Tara said). That was really fun for a while and we loved it. We have a lot of fun stories of making bear houses and surviving big storms. When I was around 10, we started renting a cabin or condo at Hills Resort at the South end of the lake and we realized how fun it was to sleep in a bed. My parents fell in love with Priest Lake years ago and wanted a cabin but, but couldn't the perfect spot until 2000, like Tara said. Tara and my dad designed the cabin entirely by themselves I think (?) and my Dad and brothers did a lot of the work on the inside. My dad has done all of the decorating (he loves cabin knick knacks). It was totally finished by 2001 (?) and we've spent just about every free second up there ever since. Oh- and my dad built the firepit by himself- it took him a couple of summers (it's a huge built-up area of rocks- I'll have to take pictures). He also built the "beach". We "share it [the cabin] with friends" in the sense that we always have friends up there- not literally (i.e., financially). Renting the cabin this summer (for a week, while my dad was in Taiwan) WAS a matter of contention, but it all worked out fine. :) Priest Lake is about an hour away from any sort of "real" town (i.e., bigger than 30 people), grocery store, gas station & hospital. We can buy milk & eggs, etc. at the ranger station down the lake a bit, and there are a few "resorts" around the lake. Otherwise, it's pretty remote, especially our (north) end of the lake, which has a lot of protected forrest service land. The entire opposite side of the lake is nothing but trees- our view will always be protected, which is nice. I wish I could be there all the time, but I'm counting myself lucky with over 2 weeks this summer. Otherwise, like Tara said, my parents are up there every weekend (weekend for them being Wednesday night through Sunday morning during the summer), and my dad takes off a full week in August when the family typically all gets together. Same for Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.
Missy & Heidi- we'll have to have a blogging friends retreat next summer. How fun would that be? I'm not really kidding.
I'm officially starting to feel like I'm part of the family, and I don't mean blogging family, I mean Hudson family, haha. It's funny Tara mentioned Christmas because as I was looking at the first picture of the house I thought, "That looks so inviting and warm. It kind of makes me think the picture was taken at Christmas time and all the family is inside, baking and laughing, and there's Christmas music in the background." (Note: I'm from southern California originally, which is why it wasn't strange for me to imagine Christmas without snow.) I am seriously SO JEALOUS of this house. Not just the house and retreat and lake and whatnot, but what it does to bring a family together. What a wonderful thing your parents have done. I'm sure that is something that will be a part of your family for generations to come. I hope to make it to Priest Lake myself some day.

The cabin is about an hour and 45 minute drive from our house in Spokane. Easy trip.
so pretty. I can't wait to visit sometime. and I definitely need a house on a lake at some point! (I choose mountians over beach I think..)
