Luggage.

I've had a really cool Ogio bag for a long time. It's big, it has great wheels, & it was durable. I think it finally died this weekend, after many good years of use. It's time to throw it away. Mike & I have never had to buy luggage as a married couple- the few pieces that we have has been inherited. I think it's finally time to break out on our own. I have no idea how to buy luggage. It seems like a very adult thing to do- even more adult than having a real job, or paying for insurance, or commuting. Luggage. This is big. But I need help. Where to go? Suggestions?

The one time I had to buy my own luggage (it busted on a trip from Boston to Utah) I just went to a department store. They usually have sales on the good, sturdy (expensive) luggage brands.

But of course- Orla Kiely sells luggage too. That would just be cool.

I just found a website that I'm really liking. Go to www.flight001.com.

This is the thing- There ae a million and one types out there. You might want to try COSTCO - They have very cool luggage that has wheels on it that roll all directions. When I see people in the airport using it they all rave about it like crazy. You might try e-pinions as well when you see something you like the "look" of, but aren't sure as to its durability etc. Take your time - you will be using it for years and years.

I forgot - Newer luggage is much lighter than it used to be. Go for light and durable. Check out the weight as airlines are much more fussier about their limits than they used to be....and they keep going down and down. Also check out the zippers - A broken zipper is the death of a suitcase and that's where cheaper pieces indicate the company saved on construction costs. Naughty, naughty.

I don't have any good recommendations bc dumb me went for "cute" instead of durable. (So far it's holding up.)
But I do know what you mean about how it feels grown up. Every Christmas in colleg my mom asked me if I wanted luggage and I thought that was way too boring and didn't want to waste Christmas money on luggage when I could still use my parents. When I knew I was moving out here I finally decided it was the right Christmas to ask for luggage. It was kind of depressing.

I love my luggage and it has held up really well. It is from TJ Maxx actually, I got it during college. It is Adrienne Vittadini. Something that sticks out was important to me because I hate checking every solid black/navy blue/or red bag in the carousel for my name. People always compliment me on it in the airport.

If you would like my OGIO you may have it. I'm not a huge fan but I know some people love theirs! I have to say, I bought our last luggage at Target and it was super cheap and lasted for two trips, but, it's red! And I like red. Next time I'll get something for real. I have a hard time spending money on something that I use so infrequently and sits in my basement. I'm a fan of the North Face duffel :)

You should check out Dakine's high end luggage too if you want stuff that functions well and is fairly well thought out...and you are looking for a 2-4 year investment.

Mandy and I rock our TJMAXX stuff still but many of the sales reps I know(who travel 8 months out of th year) swear by their Dakine luggage.
