Natalie is having twins.

I think it's fair to say that Natalie was my first Woodlands friend. I know her cousin in New York, & she put us in touch well before we made the move. Several email conversations took place over the next few weeks where I repeatedly said that we'd never, ever consider living in The Woodlands (too far from the city, too much like Stepford, etc - oops). Of course, when I ate my words & told Natalie about the house we'd put an offer on, she told me it was only a few minutes from her own. She's been a good friend ever since - immediately saying hello that first Sunday in church (I had only just returned from escaping out the back door in almost-uncontrollable tears), giving Q his first little friends in Houston, making sure that I was doing okay with everything, taking care of my son when I was throwing up non-stop during those first few weeks (um, months) of pregnancy... She's a gem, & a keeper of a friend.

And now, she's having twins. Girls! She'll have four girls under the age of 5. I hosted a much-deserved shower for her on Saturday & it was just really a lot of fun. My photos are sub-par, but I was too focused on chatting with friends & eating delicious food (if I do say so myself) to pay attention to my camera settings apparently.

I'm not a party planner by nature, so I didn't go overboard with labels, a theme or anything else for that matter (oops - sorry, Natalie!) but I was happy with how everything shook out, nonetheless. And especially that my water didn't break mid-event.

(Thanks to the sweet friends who jumped in to help. Lifesavers!)

Cue a few giant balloons, some fruity bubbly & a little brunch. It was a really happy way to spend a Saturday.

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes (skewered with berries) with a creamy lemon sauce
Donut hole fruit kebabs served with caramel sauce & coconut
Berry & French Lemonades
An assortment of mini bundt cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes

I was really happy with the food. Everything was great & I think the balance was good - not to mention that the prep was a good mix of really easy (buy desserts! saved so much stress, & probably costs about the same), to sort-of-complicated (the savory cheesecake was my absolute favorite, but took a long time).

(My uber talented friend+sister-in-law (!!) Kylie did the invites.)

You should retract everything you wrote about not being a party planner by nature. If Pinterest had a poster child, this would probably be it.

Love the big balloons! And I need to come visit you so that I can see the updated photo wall in person. Love that thing.

Yes--you are CLEARLY not a natural party planner :)
That being said, I might be finding some inspiration in your food choices for an upcoming baby girl shower I am hosting (gulp). Plus those giant pink balloons.

As I was reading this post, I was thinking the EXACT same thing...'she says she's not a party planner?'... this all looks delightful! Every part of it...the balloons, flowers, the food... and how fun to have your home filled with so many friends!

Not a natural party planner? I beg to differ. I can see exactly why you are happy with how everything turned out. Such an adorable shower! I especially love that tablecloth. And are you kidding about the pictures? They're gorgeous! You did a really beautiful job with everything, Kathryn.

I just got teary-eyed...YOU are the gem. Seriously. You are so sweet and have done SO much for us. Bless that cousin Emily who brought us together!!

I have to echo the comments previous- not a party planner, my eye! It was perfect. All of it. And so thoughtful of you. Thank you, thank you again.

-So glad I didn't ruin the "especially love(d) that tablecloth!"
