Just keep swimming, Just keep swimming...

Mike and I went swimming last night for FHE. I know, it was Wednesday, but it doesn't really matter what night FHE is, just that it IS, right {we're not very good at having FHE, but we're trying. Our family of two already has "family night" every night}? Anyway- we went swimming in our building's pool that we have not once used in the 2 1/2 months that we have lived here. Oops. We {okay, I} sang Give Said the Little Stream on our way down in the elevator & we had a spiritual thought before we went to bed. Back to swimming- It was actually a lot of fun, and far more aerobic than I remembered. I haven't really swam in a long time {besides splashing around in the pool when we went to Arizona this spring}. I had a short stint on a community swim team when I was younger & was happy to see that I've still got it {Mike & I raced- I won}. The only problem is that most of my swimsuits are a little more about style than function. I was wearing a one piece, but I think if this swimming-for-exercise & fun trend continues, I'll have to invest in a Speedo to keep things appropriately in place. Let's just say that I'm glad we were the only people in the pool.

I'm excited for a weekend. We have a Stake picnic at Central Park on Saturday & I'm hoping to do something eventful the rest of the day. Maybe go to a museum, or on a walking tour or something. We haven't done anything touristy in a long time. Errands do not count as fun, and grocery shopping on a Saturday night does not count as a date.

Swimming is such a great workout! I was way into swim team at our country club growing up, and then I became a lifeguard and swim teacher (to toddlers) during college sumemrs. I love being in the pool- but each time I swim laps (which is not a rare occurence) it kicks my butt!

Reminds me of Mary Ann who was with her extended family on a housboat trip - She dove from the upper deck into the lake and the top of her tankini peeled up WAY too far before she hit the water......awkward!

ok so I decided I am now a big fan of the 1 piece for the first time in my life. We went wakeboarding (and as gross as this sounds) I borrowed my friends suit in st. george because I didn't bring one. ANYWAY. I actually LOVED it. it held everthing in place and I didn't have to worry a bit about anything falling out (that goes for my chest AND my stomach these days) SO i have been on the look for a cute 1 piece to boat in and NO luck thus far :( I guess I have another year to find one . . .

I love the jcrew skinny strap tankini with bikini bottoms. It's full coverage but a little more comfy that a one piece (the pulling thing if you have a longer torso.) Or Athleta has great wakeboarding suits that are athletic but cute. (Athleta would be perfect for swimming laps too.) Nordstrom always has really great one pieces if you're willing to spend a little extra $$.

Kathryn I seriously can't believe you have a pool and never use it. I am SO JEALOUS!!! I would KILL for a pool to use in New York!
Funny story to add to yours....one 80 degree January day in California my girlfriends Dayna and Shannon and I went to the beach. It was SO hot and we wanted to get in the ocean to cool off, but the water was SO cold. Dayna and I decided we would count to three and just run in, dive under a wave, and run back out. We waited and waited because we were too chicken, but finally went for it. It was SO cold. After we came up from under the wave we started running as fast as we could to get back (which wasn't very easy because the water was above our knees.) Shannon was at the shore watching the whole thing, and was now pointing and laughing hysterically. I thought it was because we looked so ridiculous and were so cold. I kept running as fast as I could, it probably took a good 45 seconds, and got up to the beach and she's still pointing (at just me, I now realize) and couldn't even speak because she's laughing so hard. All she could get out was, "Your....your...your!" FINALLY I look down and realize my whole left boob is completely out of my bikini top. At that point I tucked it safely away and we all fell to the ground in hysterics. I seriously DID NOT EVEN NOTICE it. When I've heard those kind of stories in the past I've always thought, "Yeah right, how could you NOT know?" But really, I didn't.
Luckily it was January so no one else was at the beach that day.
